The incident occurred in the match between Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan in the Champions League.
Right at the beginning of the game, when Inter took a corner kick.
The ball which was cleared by Bayern’s defender, was immediately met by Barella’s shot.
Barella’s shot hit Mané’s hand, as he was protecting his face from the ball.
Inter Milan players considered it a foul worthy of a penalty.
The referee checked VAR, and the result was that Mané’s handball was not deemed a foul punishable by a penalty.
This was because Mané’s hand movement, was a reflex action and did not make his body appear larger.
Mané commented on the handball incident by saying: «If I hadn’t put my hand in front of my face, I could have ended up in the hospital. Clearly, it wasn’t a penalty,» Mané said.
